The Riserva dello Zingaro was established in 1981 by the Sicilian Region.
We do not know why this area is called "gypsy", in fact there is no information in the historical sources of nomads who lived in these places, while the presence of a colony of Lombardi in the thirteenth century is indicated.
Small bays paved with white pebbles, sea that during the day is tinged with unexpected shades of green and blue, sharp rocks that separate the different beaches, Mediterranean scrub that seems to plunge into the sea and ancient farmhouses built on the rock.
Admiring the Riserva dello Zingaro from the sea is an exciting experience because it makes you grasp the majesty of the place with a single glance. The high peaks of the Zingaro slope down to the sea, the green of the Mediterranean scrub mixes with the red of the rocks and plunges into the blue of its splendid waters.
The area of San Vito lo Capo is known for its natural and artistic beauties, it deserves a visit to the Tonnara del Secco, the old lighthouse and the Chapel of Santa Crescezia.
But now let's come to the beaches, true protagonists of San Vito lo Capo. Among the most famous are that of the Bue Marino, considered by Legambiente the most beautiful in Italy. Also not to be missed is a visit to the two caves, that of the Horses and that of Uzzo, with the homonymous tonnara.
In San Vito lo Capo the Cous Cous Fest takes place every year, the International Festival of Cultural Integration, a festival of flavors and civilization that celebrates cous cous as a dish of peace, integration and exchange, The marvelous crystalline waters, its light and soft sand surrounded by the vegetation of the Mediterranean scrub will be the perfect setting for the next holidays in Sicily, a wonderful land.
